8:30am-3:30pm
“CARING for TRAUMA”
This training will help primary care and social service providers engage with people who have a history of trauma. Trauma-informed care changes the providers’ perspective from asking, “What is wrong with you?” to “What has happened to you?”. This shift in perspective leads to greater connection between provider and consumer, improving services.
Our speaker will be Dr. Allison Jackson. She is a person of lived experience and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. As a professional, she has provided leadership development to behavioral health, education, child welfare, and criminal justice systems for more than 20 years. Jackson is now the CEO of Integrations Solutions, which provides education and consultation services on trauma-informed care.
Strength In Peers is providing free training and technical assistance to help primary care, social service, and other community organizations implement trauma-informed practices. LUNCH and REFRESHMENTS will be provided!
As a result of this training, participants will learn:
1. How traumatic events contribute to physical health, mental health, and addiction problems.
2. Skills for building relationships with survivors of trauma to promote trust, honesty, and follow-through.
3. The role of self-awareness and self-care to mitigate the impact of vicarious trauma on the provider.
