Virginia Construction Hike for Hope Sets New Fundraising Goal Ahead of May 2 Event
Afton, VA — The Virginia Construction Hike for Hope has officially surpassed its original fundraising goal, building strong momentum ahead of this year’s event on Saturday, May 2 at the East Trailhead of the Blue Ridge Tunnel in Afton, Virginia. They aren’t finished yet though! They have a new goal of $45,000.
Organized to bring together professionals, families, and community members from across the construction industry, the Hike for Hope supports the mission of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). All funds raised from the event will directly benefit AFSP’s efforts in suicide prevention, education, advocacy, and support for those affected by suicide.
This year’s event has already exceeded expectations thanks to the generous support of top Gold Sponsors, including BFPE International, Vantage Data Centers, Southland Industries, and Whiting-Turner. Their commitment reflects a growing recognition within the construction industry of the importance of mental health awareness and support.
The construction industry faces one of the highest suicide rates among all professions, making initiatives like the Hike for Hope especially meaningful. By coming together in a visible and supportive way, participants are helping to break the stigma surrounding mental health and encouraging open conversations within the industry.
“This event is about more than just reaching a fundraising goal—it’s about showing up for one another,” said event organizers. “Surpassing our goal is incredible, but the real impact comes from the awareness we’re building and the conversations we’re starting so we are excited to have a new goal to reach.”
The Hike for Hope is designed to be a family-friendly event, welcoming participants of all ages and fitness levels. Attendees can choose their own hiking distance along the scenic Blue Ridge Tunnel trail, making it accessible whether they prefer a short walk or a longer hike. The out-and-back trail allows each participant to tailor their experience while enjoying the natural beauty of the surrounding area.
Participants are encouraged to register, donate, or support the cause by spreading the word. Together, the construction community and its supporters are taking meaningful steps toward hope, healing, and change.
