Kevin King receives National Everence Journey Award
HARRISONBURG, Va. – Kevin King, Executive Director of Mennonite Disaster Service, is the recipient of the Everence National Journey Award. This award recognizes that King, in his role with MDS, has practiced stewardship and inspired those around him to be of service to their community.
The award was presented October 7 at Eastern Mennonite School, during an event celebrating King and his wife Karen. Created in 2001, the Journey Award highlights what people of faith are doing as stewards of their God-given gifts.
“Kevin's leadership of MDS has blessed many persons whose lives were impacted by a natural disaster,” said Dave Warren, Vice President of the Everence Atlantic Region. “The MDS model of developing relationships with the families that they are helping promotes the dignity of all those involved.”
Since 1950, MDS has recruited, organized and empowered volunteers to repair and rebuild homes in disaster-stricken communities in the U.S. and Canada.
Under King’s leadership, MDS has grown significantly, having recruited over 6,500 volunteers in 2024 and 2025. King has developed partnerships with both national and local relief organizations to provide a thorough service to the communities they serve.
In addition to giving recognition, Everence donated $5,000 to Eastern Mennonite School, an organization King chose to receive the funds.
