ANDREW STOCKMENT BEGINS TERM AS CHAIR OF THE VBA INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY LAW SECTION

At the 135th Annual Meeting of The Virginia Bar Association (“VBA”), Andrew Stockment was elected as Chair of the VBA Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law Section (“VBA IP and IT Section”) Council. The VBA was founded in 1888 and is the independent voice of the Virginia lawyer, advancing the highest ideals of the profession through advocacy and volunteer service.  The VBA IP and IT Section was established in 1997. Its mission is to increase awareness of intellectual property and information technology law issues among all practitioners by publications and continuing legal education programs and to support the VBA in its mission to propose statutory changes which improve the law.
Andrew is particularly well-suited for this position as he focuses his practice on corporate and business law, intellectual property and technology, and cybersecurity and data privacy. Andrew enjoys working with established business owners and startups to form and grow their businesses and develop, protect, and license their intellectual property and technology assets. He also advises clients regarding the preparation and negotiation of contracts and the operation, purchase, finance, and sale of businesses.  He assists organizations when they face cybersecurity and data breach incidents. He frequently publishes and speaks on intellectual property, technology, and cybersecurity issues.
Andrew has also been selected to the Legal Elite list by Virginia Business magazine (2019 - 2024) in several areas, including Cybersecurity, Data Privacy, and Information Technology. Andrew also currently serves on the Virginia State Bar's Business Law Section Board of Governors.
