American Eagle Flights Operated by SkyWest Airlines to Launch from Shenandoah Valley Airport (SHD) to Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Charlotte (CLT)
WEYERS CAVE, Va. (Oct. 27, 2025) — The Shenandoah Valley Airport Commission is pleased to announce American Eagle flights, operated by SkyWest Airlines, will begin service from Shenandoah Valley Airport (SHD) on Feb. 3, 2026.
Daily flights will be available from SHD to Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT). The flights will be operated utilizing dual-class regional aircraft, seating between 65 and 76 passengers, and offering a first-class cabin for an enhanced travel experience. SkyWest will also be hiring a local team at SHD to support these new flights and to assist passengers who are flying in and out of the region.
Through a full codeshare agreement with American Airlines, customers traveling from SHD will benefit from a streamlined travel experience, including seamless check-in and baggage transfers, as well as access to American’s extensive global network. They will also have the opportunity to accrue frequent flier miles through the AAdvantage® program. Flight times are designed to provide maximum connection opportunities for both business and leisure travelers. Tickets are available now at aa.com and via the American Airlines mobile app.
Chicago is a welcome return to the Shenandoah Valley Airport: SHD previously had service to Chicago O’Hare with United Express flights. The route proved extremely popular with Valley travelers and restoring this connection — now through American Airline’s global network — represents an exciting milestone for the community.
“We are thrilled to welcome SkyWest Airlines back to the Shenandoah Valley market,” said Michael Heatwole, Chairman of the Shenandoah Valley Airport Commission. “This new service represents an important step forward in expanding air connectivity for our region. We believe these routes will not only enhance travel opportunities for Shenandoah Valley residents but also support economic growth by strengthening business and tourism ties throughout the region.”
“We’re excited to return to Shenandoah Valley and to provide these new American Eagle flights to Chicago and Charlotte,” said Cody Thomas, Managing Director of Market Development at SkyWest Airlines. "Travelers will now have access to two major airline hubs, making it easy to connect to hundreds of destinations on American’s worldwide network.”
Contour Airlines will continue to provide service from SHD to Charlotte Douglas International Airport through Feb. 1, 2026.
“We are deeply grateful to Contour Airlines for their service to our community over the past three years,” said Heather Ream, Director of Marketing & Communications at SHD. “Their partnership has been invaluable in keeping the Shenandoah Valley connected, and we sincerely appreciate their commitment to our region and our travelers. Charlotte has long been a popular hub for Valley residents, and we are excited that this important connection will continue seamlessly with SkyWest’s new American Eagle service.”
