The Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce Adopts Diversity Statement

Commitment to diversity and inclusion

Harrisonburg, VA – November 1, 2021 – The Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has adopted the following organizational statement on Diversity:

The Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber of Commerce is committed to diversity and inclusion at all levels of our organization as well as the community at large.

We believe that cultivating an environment that promotes, and lives by, inclusive values is a core component of a vibrant economy. These values lead us to a better quality of life, talented workforce and allows us to be more competitive in an ever-expanding global marketplace.

Your Chamber of Commerce represents the entire community and will strive to ensure everyone has the opportunity to achieve their maximum potential. To attain this goal, the Chamber of Commerce, in our ongoing mission to better serve our membership, is dedicated to maintaining a diverse and inclusive Board. We are also committed to implementing programs, initiatives and policies to assist those who have been traditionally and historically under-served as well as under-represented in our community.

Together we can, and will, make this the best place to live, work and play for all.

“The Chamber has always believed in, and continues to work towards, a more diverse and inclusive business environment,” said Dr. Melissa Lubin, Dean of JMU’s School of Professional & Continuing Education and Chair of the Chamber. “This public statement is a natural step to complement the wonderful work of our Diversity Business Council.”

The Chamber’s Diversity Business Council works to educate the business community on various diversity issues in the form of outreach, programs and general awareness campaigns. One of the more prominent programs the Council has created is the B-Cubed (Black and Brown Owned Business Growth Program) initiative.

“Since being reactivated three years ago, the Chamber’s Diversity Council has made wonderful strides in bringing awareness to specific issues and topics that impact our regional business community,” Tisha McCoy-Ntiamoah, Vice-Chair of Regional and Business Councils for the Chamber and Owner of PrePOPsterous Gourmet Popcorn. “Adopting this statement affirms that our Chamber is an advocate for all members of our community.”
