Adagio House Community Center Open for Business and Private Events
Harrisonburg, VA, October 2024 – On any crisp fall morning at the Adagio House Community Center, you’ll find staff members providing respite care for children and adults with disabilities, occupational therapists and clients walking outside to spot wildlife, and support groups for caregivers gathering in cozy sun-filled meeting rooms.
Since opening its doors last winter, the Adagio House Community Center has hosted onsite respite programs, summer camps, and support groups for children and adults with disabilities and their caregivers. The center, located at 1380 Blackberry Lane, is now open to the public for business meetings, private events, performances, and classes.
The two-story 9,000 square foot Community Center is situated on almost five acres of land just outside Harrisonburg city limits. Adagio House is opening its doors so that other groups, organizations, and companies can benefit from the non-profit facility and location, which are in high demand given the rising costs of traditional hotel meeting spaces. The Community Center offers flexible meeting space for up to 200 guests on both levels, in addition to tables, chairs, and a full kitchen. Rental of the center starts at just $80 per hour, and discounted rates are available for nonprofit organizations.
A few weeks ago, the center hosted its first concert featuring DC-based world jazz duo Veronneau. Kim Newton, Adagio Houses’s fundraising coordinator, saw the opportunity to use the Community Center when Veronneau contacted her seeking a local performance venue when others hadn’t come through. The main hall and stage offered the perfect setting and intimate atmosphere for an evening of jazz. “What we have here is a hidden gem of a venue that we hope other groups, performers, and businesses will put at the top of their list when considering new spaces for their events,” said Newton.
The Community Center is also available for private events, parties, and weddings. Adagio House founder and executive director, April Hepler, said, “A community center has been a goal of Adagio House’s vision since the day we started. It is so exciting to see this dream realized and to offer a brick and mortar building where caregivers can connect, and individuals living with disabilities can grow and find community. We can’t wait to share this space with Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.”
Weekday tours of the center are available for potential rental partners. Adagio House hopes to see its rental calendar fill up after the holiday season. Meanwhile, Adagio House is partnering with other groups to plan events that will bring more community members into the facility, including Sensory Friendly Santa on Sunday, December 1, co-hosted with The ARC of Harrisonburg-Rockingham and the Speech and Language Center. Families of children with disabilities can sign up for a free timed-entry slot, visit Santa, enjoy holiday craft activities, and refreshments in a calming environment. Reservations for the event are now available on the Adagio House website, www.adagiohouse.com/santa.
