Arts Council of the Valley (ACV) is a mission-driven 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to cultivating the arts and connecting communities in the City of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, VA. 

Arts Council of the Valley (ACV) seeks a motivated individual to manage organizational operations and enhance ACV’s marketing, online and social media presence.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Executive Director. Position includes a benefits package. Starting salary is $32,000 to $35,000, and is commensurate with experience. This role requires occasional evening and weekend availability.


Marketing/Social Media/Website Operations (50%)

  • Develop/implement annual marketing plan to promote all ACV program areas - including special events - via website, social media, e-newsletter and other email communications, press releases, paid advertising, and other media, as appropriate.

  • Develop and oversee marketing budget.

  • Oversee accurate and timely website updates.

  • Generate, edit, publish and share web and social media content (original text, images, video or HTML) to build meaningful connections and encourage community support;

  • Moderate user-generated social media content; 

  • Support the marketing needs of Executive Director and Managing Director of Court Square Theater (CST).

  • Track marketing outcomes.

  • Attend Marketing Committee meetings. 


Administrative Operations (50%)

  • Provide general office support: answer phones, welcome visitors; respond to email inquiries; assist Executive Director and Managing Director.

  • Oversee theater and administrative office organization, supply/equipment ordering, and IT needs. 

  • Maintain accurate records of all donations; prepare tax receipt letters.

  • Provide support for ACV sponsorships; ensuring that appropriate benefits are awarded in a timely manner.

  • Provide logistical support for ACV state and local grant applications and follow-up reporting.

  • Provide support, as needed to Board of Directors; prepare annual Board Manual.

  • Work with Executive Director and Managing Director to develop annual budgets for ACV and CST; track revenue and expenses throughout the year, recommend adjustments to expenditures as necessary.

  • Interface with outside auditor to provide all requested materials for annual audit.

  • Prepare, send, track invoices; prepare Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable forms; track/document credit card charges by account code; work with bookkeeper to ensure compliance with all laws and acceptable business practices.

  • Provide logistical support for special events: develop planning timeline, mailing lists; track RSVPs and ticket purchases; coordinate event registration; provide tax receipts.

  • Prepare and maintain detailed programming calendars and event information files for ACV and CST. 

  • Ensure adequate paid/volunteer staffing for performing and visual arts venues; schedule/supervise part-time employees and volunteers for ACV and CST.

  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or equivalent professional experience in related field.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation skills; fluency in English.

  • Highly developed interpersonal skills; ability to resolve conflicts and deal effectively with the public in a courteous, respectful, and tactful manner.

  • Working knowledge of basic business budgeting and bookkeeping practices. 

  • Skilled in standard office software and technology (MS Office, Google Suite), including social media and basic website updates. Ideally, adept in RTS, or a similar ticketing system with transferable knowledge; experience with Mac and Windows operating systems; experience with Canva or other design software.

  • Proven ability to plan, coordinate, implement, and direct varied activities.

  • Highly developed organizational skills and strong attention to detail; ability to multitask and balance several deadlines at once;

  • Demonstrated experience as a motivated self-starter who is comfortable working both independently and within a group setting.


  • Three years experience in a nonprofit setting with demonstrated skill in office administration, customer service, and social media marketing. 

  • Knowledge of theater operations and demonstrated experience in contracting for performances and facility rentals.

  • Collaborative, transparent work style; positive attitude; innovative problem-solving skills; and highly-developed listening and empathy skills.

  • Transferable experience and fluency in ticketing system software.

  • Ability to lift 25 pounds and stand or sit for extended periods of time.
