Manager of Membership Engagement & Programs

The Harrisonburg-Rockingham Chamber is seeking candidates to fill our Manager of Membership Engagement & Programs position. This individual will be responsible for coordinating the Leadership Harrisonburg-Rockingham program as well as assigned business councils.  In addition to programmatic management, the successful candidate will be the Chamber Board Liaison and creator weekly e-communications sent to the membership.
 
The Manager of Membership Engagement & Programs is the Chamber’s membership and recruitment specialist, responsible for direct contact with members and prospective members as well as overseeing programs and directly interacting with members. The successful candidate must possess a professional demeanor and the ability to communicate proficiently with Chamber members, Board of Directors and other community representatives.  This position will also serve as the primary liaison for the Chamber’s Board of Directors & Leadership Program as well as create and distribute the Chamber weekly e-newsletter and content for social media. The Manager of Membership Engagement & Programs must be a team player, detailed orientated, and have the ability to work independently. This position reports directly to the Chamber President/CEO.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong computer skills and database management

  • Competency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel required

  • Experience in Canva, Adobe Photoshop and/or InDesign desired

  • Must provide an outstanding, positive example of customer service, leadership, and professionalism to chamber members, staff, and volunteers

  • Ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision

  • Displays sound judgment

  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple organizational meetings and volunteers

  • Ability to strategically support the overall programs, ranging from financial planning to promotion strategies

  • Non-essential/peripheral function – Involvement in civic or philanthropic organizations

Job Description
 
Membership

  •  Maintain direct communications with members on a regular basis and have a strong working knowledge of all chamber operations

  • Assists with contacting in a timely basis, and works with, current members whose accounts are past due or who have indicated they do not wish to renew their membership, with an emphasis on encouraging renewal

  • Prepare new member and relocation packets as needed

  • Create and distribute Chamber weekly e-newsletter. Assist in creating content for chamber’s social media.

 Board of Directors

  •  Schedule and provide logistical support for meetings of the Board of Directors and its committees

  • Generate agendas and other materials for meetings of the Board of Directors and its committees

  • Take and generate minutes for Board Meetings

  • Maintain Board distribution lists and contact information

 Leadership Harrisonburg-Rockingham

  • Assist with administration and logistics of the Leadership Program including:

  • Help facilitate recruitment of new class

  • Help facilitate planning committees for each of the program days

  • Work extensively with volunteers and alumni

  • Work extensively with community leaders/presenters/issues experts

  • Prospect sponsorships for program days

Requirements

  • Preferred: Minimum three-year experience in program, events, or related field 

  • Attend early morning, weekend meetings, and evening events

  • Other responsibilities as assigned
