Assistant to the Vice President for Advancement

POSITION SUMMARY: The assistant to the vice president for advancement provides executive level administrative support in achieving the mission of the advancement division for the university. Along with managing the vice president’s schedule and appointments with internal and external stakeholders, the assistant provides technical assistance to EMU’s capital campaigns; aids institutional teamwork and implements division department objectives and policies. The assistant coordinates division meetings, campaign fundraising events, and functions. The assistance also relates to the advancement committee of the board, and collaborates with staff across the division including the offices of development, and alumni and parent engagement.


  • Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: Office systems, budget, personnel and project management, writing, communication, and database skills required. Facility with Microsoft Office applications required. Experience in a fundraising office desired. Familiarity with Mennonite Church constituencies desired.
  • Special skills: Must be well organized, detail-oriented, accurate, and able to write and speak clearly. Must be a self-starter with a strong work ethic. Must relate well to people, handle multiple assignments, work independently, be flexible with changing priorities, and be able to maintain confidentiality. Must have experience using general office equipment; adeptness with Microsoft Word and Excel, Google, and other software applications; writing, editing, and verbal communication; understanding basic financial budgeting; filing; multi-relational work assignments. Must be committed to the mission of EMU. Must be able to work with minimum supervision.
