SUMMARY:Improving Your Business' Accessibility: Free Small Business Training
DESCRIPTION:Sometimes we can feel apprehension when engaging with people living with disabilities (what if we say or do the wrong thing?)\, which sometimes results in avoiding interactions. Join Gayl Brunk from Valley Associates for Independent Living (VAIL) our regional expert on accessibility -- to learn simple ways businesses and their employees can be accessible to customers living with disabilities as well as community members who are aged 65 and up. She will dispel myths and misunderstandings and guide attendees to focus on the person and not the disability. By using some simple tips on ways to sensitively engage with all customers to making easy adjustments to business practices you can start making everyone feel welcomed today.\n\n \n\nDid You Know?\n\n\n	You may be losing business when turning down dining room lights so individuals can no longer read lips.\n	You should always speak to the individual and not their interpreter.\n	The layout of your business could help accommodate people using mobility devices.\n	The volume of your music can impact whether customers can engage easily with each other\, including those with hearing impairments who would struggle with too much background noise.\n\n\nWe hope all business owners and many of their employees will attend. Register yourself and your team today by clicking the link below. Priority is given to downtown businesses. After August 21\, seats will be opened to businesses outside of downtown.\n\n \n\nREGISTER HERE: https://forms.gle/chPWw7AXWtBMKDAKA\n\n \n\nDepending on interest\, we may need to limit the total number of employees from each business in order to engage with as many businesses as possible. Please notify us of any cancellations so we can open your seat to someone else.\n\n \n\nTo request accomodations for this event please contact HDR at 540-432-8922.\n\n \n\nThis training is brought to you by Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance and Valley Associates for Independent Living. Made possible by the generous support of Hotel Madison and Conference Center.
