The Virginia-Chesapeake Western Railroad\, originally running through the Shenandoah Valley\, connecting Harrisonburg to Bridgewater\, Elkton\, and Staunton\, was used to raw materials from town to town. The railroad is now primarily used for the poultry industry in the Valley.\n\nLocals and train guys nicknamed the rail line the "Crooked & Weedy Rail Road" because of the hilly and rural landscape through which it traveled.\n\nA piece of the Crooked & Weedy used to run through Bluestone Vineyard\, but is not longer operating. To honor its history\, Bluestone Vineyard named one of their popular red wines after the infamous railroad.\n\nSo no worries\, we promise the race route is not "Crooked" and "Weedy".
